Oof. The nonprofit social benefit space is so full of unquestioned assumptions like this. As someone who has been in a couple cult-like (cult-lite?) groups, the social pressure to conform is intense, and holding up examples of "People who are NOT like us" is frequent. I have begun to think of it as the "Mean Girls" vibe writ large.

Humans are capable of so much more if we would take the time to be curious and try to understand each other! But no, that would get in the way of "justice" for whomever has been labeled most oppressed on any given day, wouldn't it? </sarcasm>

Next. Puberty blockers are bizaro world. Don’t see how that can be an argument. People getting so angry when in your heart you are protecting children. That should at least be common ground but it’s not in progressive eyes.

Then also early in your note, I’ve been accused of being Maga and I’m not. But if I vote for Trump or not it has nothing to do with me being Maga or in a cult. I think this goes for moderates that lean left too.

This is a great note but I’m gonna reply to one things now while I remember and then read the rest lol. I have a younger sister that has done that to me too and still does from time to time after forgiving me but I always seem to disappoint and it’s a circle. Not on purpose on my part Not because I’m a bad person. But because my ideology is different. Which in return I’ve never reciprocated that to her because of our differences. She’s gotten better but it reared its head again.

Oof, I know the feeling. From both angles, unfortunately 🤦🏾‍♀️ When someone has been emotionally manipulated into believing something & believe there is no legitimate reason to disagree with their position, they can only respond emotionally, which poisons relationships. It grieves me to see how the political industry in our country has literally torn up families and friendships, to the point where people are cutting each other off over narratives they consumed online or on cable news. Truly heartbreaking 💔

It really is but I would say it has gotten better. I have had recently good conversations with different ideological friends who are agreed we will still be friends despite of our differences. In return we both have benefited from different viewpoints and understand each other more. That’s normal and is not the norm now. My black friends whi I’ve known for years and have never had to have these discussions till now because before not here of us gave a shit when it came to our friendship. Now though we discuss as adults and have become closer for it.
